An illustration of the skill set within the Indian pharmaceutical
industry is shown by the reported ability of Cipla to produce in large scale
volumes a generic bird flu vaccine called Antiflu. Roche have the patent
for Tamiflu but grey areas within India law have resulted in Cipla
pressing ahead with their own version of Tamiflu called Antiflu. This generic
bird flu vaccine is already being mass produced and stored by Cipla, ready for
distribution should the Indian government give such permission.
Cipla was probably previously best known for producing
anti-aids drugs for sale within India.
